What if you only had one day to live? What would you do? Who would you kiss? And how far would you go to save your own life?
Samantha Kingston has it all: the world’s most crush-worthy boyfriend, three amazing best friends, and first pick of everything at Thomas Jefferson High—from the best table in the cafeteria to the choicest parking spot. Friday, February 12, should be just another day in her charmed life.
Instead, it turns out to be her last. Then she gets a second chance. Seven chances, in fact. Reliving her last day during one miraculous week, she will untangle the mystery surrounding her death—and discover the true value of everything she is in danger of losing.
So I just finished this book today, as those who follow me on Twitter already know. When I began reading it, I nearly vomited: The main character was a total brat, completely incapable of understanding that others have feelings, and didn't seem likely to change. She was realistic, all right, but far too realistic.
I kept reading, though, in the hopes that it would get better.
And the weirdest part was, it did. I really grew to care about Sam, and I nearly cried three times during the book. Getting past the characters' shallowness was difficult, I'll admit, but once I did, it was a book that really drew me in. It inspired me, to 'live life to the fullest' and never take anything for granted. Lauren Oliver's book achieved what I think it meant to; it makes people think, about their lives, and whether they're really living or just going through the motions.
4/5 stars, just because the beginning bored me.
